Do you want less pain, faster healing, and reduced inflammation? Well, the answer is pumping through your veins. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is changing the game for our patients and we’re excited to see what it can do for you.
At Smylique Dentistry, Dr. Indra Quagliata, and our experienced staff are dedicated to providing you with the best dental and cosmetic treatments available.
The first step in knowing whether or not PRF is right for you is understanding how it works.
PRF starts with a blood sample. You’ll give about as much as you would for routine lab work. After your blood has been collected, we place the sample in a machine called a centrifuge. This machine spins your blood to separate the various substances and extract the most important components of healing: platelets and fibrin.
Once your blood has gone through the centrifuge, it’s ready to be administered anywhere in your body that requires healing.
You’ve likely heard of PRF’s cousin platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP was the first edition of platelet-based healing.
There are a couple of key differences between the two concentrations. The first is how they're prepared. PRF takes significantly less time to prepare and can even be processed chairside. It also doesn’t require any additional anticoagulants or surgical additives like PRP does.
Another significant improvement PRF provides is the addition of fibrin. PRP relies solely on platelets while PRF uses the structural and restorative advantages of fibrin. Fibrin is a protein that responds to bleeding and aids in the clotting process.
When fibrin is present at the site of an injury or wound, the platelets attach themselves to it. They then begin the healing process by releasing growth factors that stimulate collagen production, restore blood vessels, and create new skin cells. It's this important ingredient that makes all the difference when it comes to accelerated healing.
We’re proud to offer PRF as a central part of our treatment process. Here are a few ways PRF can benefit you:
PRF contains nature’s most potent healing elements. Platelets prevent blood loss and activate the production of growth factors while fibrin provides the structures needed to rebuild tissue and clot your blood.
Whether you’ve just received a cosmetic injection, undergone oral surgery, or had dental implants put in, injecting this personalized cocktail of platelets, fibrin, and other restorative factors directly into the site of your surgery or injection can significantly increase the speed of your healing.
PRF is 100% autologous which means it’s completely natural because it comes straight from your body. This essentially guarantees that PRF won’t be rejected by your system and will work effectively.
Most cosmetic and dental procedures result in serious pain. Because PRF aggressively heals your wounds, you’ll experience less time in pain and recovery. This can significantly reduce or possibly eliminate the need for anti-inflammatory or pain-reducing medications which can be habit-forming.
Don’t let the fear of pain and downtime keep you from receiving cosmetic and dental treatments. Dr. Quagliata and our team will help you through your procedure, as well as your healing process.
