How to Extend the Results of Teeth Whitening

October 21, 2019

Have you recently gotten teeth whitening but are concerned that your results may not last? You’re not alone. At Smylique Dentistryy we provide teeth whitening treatments to many of our patients, and it’s common for them to want to learn more about extending their teeth whitening results.

As one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to enhance your smile, teeth whitening is a great option for most people, and it’s important to understand how to maintain your results.

How long does teeth whitening typically last?

At IQ Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we use a teeth whitening technique called Zoom. We also have the option of providing you with a take-home teeth whitening kit for a less immediate approach. The results from teeth whitening procedures widely varies from person to person, and it’s tough to say exactly how long you can expect them to last. Some patients’ teeth get whiter and stay that way for six months, while others might only last a couple of months. That’s why it’s important to be armed with a routine that allows you to keep your teeth whitening results for a long, long time.

How you can extend your teeth whitening results.

Regardless of if you choose an in-office or at-home teeth whitening procedure, there are certain steps you can take to extend your results. These steps include:

Proper dental hygiene

Flossing and brushing your teeth daily will not only help keep your teeth white, it also keeps your mouth healthy!

Avoid certain drinks

Certain types of food and drink have a tendency to stain your teeth. Avoid beverages like coffee, wine, and juice. If you can’t resist the urge for one of your favorite darker colored drinks, try using a straw to reduce the amount of liquid that touches your teeth.

Avoid certain types of food

Darker colored foods and sauces like certain berries, soy sauce, and tomato sauce are good to avoid or eat in moderation when trying to keep your teeth white.

Avoid tobacco products

Smoking and chewing tobacco can easily stain your teeth.

Follow-up treatments

After having your teeth whitened, it’s always smart to maintain follow-up treatments to help extend your results. The length between treatments varies from patient to patient and depends on how quickly your results are declining. We’re happy to consult you on a timeline that’s best suited for your situation.
